Ramesh Pokhriyal was born on July 15, 1959, in Pinani, Uttarakhand. His father is Mr Paramanamd Pokhriyal and his mother is Mrs Vishambhari Devi. He pursued his post-graduation degree from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. On May 7, 1985, he married Mrs Kusum Kanta Pokhriyal. He had three daughters with her. But his family went through a rough patch because his wife died at the age of 50 in the year 2012 in Dehradun.
He was first employed as a teacher in RSS affiliated Saraswati Shishu Mandir. In 1991, he was elected for the first time to the public office as the member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Karnaprayog constituency. He is also the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2009 to 2011. He also represented Haridwar constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha. During second term of Mr Narendra Modi government, he took oath as Cabinet Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development on May 30, 2019. He is also the author of 44 books in Hindi. Many of his books were translated to English and other Indian regional languages.
